I believed myself to be in for another dull and dreary weekend of doing nawt much on Thursday evening; however, a totally unexpected opportunity to buy a ticket to see MUSE at the O2 the very next evening came to light. I snaffled up the offer, and less that 24 hours later found myself sat in the arena, waiting patiently for the gig to start.
The support was The Big Pink... to be honest, I remember very little of what they played, eclipsed by MUSE as they were. It was a great setlist:
- Uprising - They were concealed inside giant square pillars, which transformed into giant square podiums which moved up and down. What a way to start.
- Resistance
- New Born - I was slightly annoyed that Mr. Bellamy didn't actually play the piano part for this, but the awesome riff and amazing laser show which came with it makes up for that. HIGHLIGHT.
- Map of the Problematique - Glad this was played.
- Supermassive Black Hole - Of course.
- MK Ultra - This one was good. I didn't appreciate it enough on the album.
- Interlude
- Hysteria - Hell yes. HIGHLIGHT.
- Nishe - Chris and Dom (Bassist and Drummer) doing some instrumental coolness whilst Matt got out his piano...
- United States Of Eurasia - ...which had shiny lights inside it.
- Cave (Piano Version) - Another HIGHLIGHT; great choice from their Debut way back when.
- Guiding Light
- Helsinki Jam - More Chris and Dom instrumentality.
- Undisclosed Desires
- Starlight
- Plug In Baby - HIGHLIGHT, of course.
- Time Is Running Out
- Unnatural Selection - DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DA DO DA!
- Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1: Overture
- Stockholm Syndrome - Riffy Riffy Riffy Riffy...
- Knights of Cydonia - With Harmonica Man intro.
It was a pity that I couldn't go with all the friendlies I origin(of Symmetry)ally (un)intended to go with, and I was sat alone, but it was definitely worth the money and the cramped tube trains and the getting home at almost 2:00am.
